A new name for the O’Neill School in March 2019 meant a new beginning for the O’Neill Student Council. OSC is the O’Neill School’s only undergraduate student organization, and they’re looking for leaders.
The Basics
- OSC advocates for O’Neill students and promotes opportunities for service, social networking, community engagement, and professional development.
- The organization represents all majors in O’Neill and has leadership opportunities for students.
- On Tuesday, September 10, OSC will have its first call-out meeting of the new school year. That’s when they’ll discuss the group’s goals and collect nominations for leadership team elections.

The Details
Debbie Koliba, an academic advisor at the O’Neill School, serves as OSC’s staff advisor. While she provides technical assistance to the group, Koliba says this is a student-led, student-driven, and student-focused organization.
“We want leaders who will step up and take the wheel,” she says. “Together, students can mold this organization into whatever they want it to be.”
One possibility, Koliba says, is forming small groups focused on creating opportunities for volunteering, professional networking, and events—like ReCYCLE Ride—for O’Neill students. But she stresses students have the final say on what this organization will become.
“We want to see students own this organization because it is designed to represent all students in our school,” Koliba adds. “It’s critical that it reaches into each of our majors because it is truly the voice of the students.”
She says the group is also exploring options—including virtual ones—that allow students to connect with OSC, even if they can’t make it to the regular meetings.
Get Involved
The easiest way to get involved is to attend the call-out meeting on September 10. You can also learn more about OSC and how to get involved, email indyosc@iupui.edu or visit its site on The Den.
